Joint team of the Philippine Navy in Sulu and the Marine Battalion Landing Team 3, rescued Jose Duterte, 66, a resident of Sitio Tabuk, Barangay Sta Maria, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte.
Duterte was kidnapped by members of the Abu Sayyaf under the sub-leader Injam Yadah.
During the rescue, the soldiers were also able to neutralize and capture some members of the Abu Sayyaf group at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1 in Sulu province.
The operation was under Brigadier General Armel Senosa Tolato who conducted the operations in Barangay Kandayok, Panamao, Sulu, an area just adjacent to the recent encounter site with the ASG.
After the rescue, Duterte was brought to a hospital in Busbus, Jolo, Sulu for a medical check up and debriefing.
