MISS EARTH
Miss Earth Canada Jaime VandenBerg said she was sexually harassed during the course of the MIss Earth pageant.
The 21-year-old candidate posted on her Instagram account on Wednesday, Nov. 7, that one of the Miss Earth sponsors harassed and asked for sexual favors. And that she lost faith in the pageant’s organizers how it handled her concerns.
She said that on the second day of the pageant, someone called her and identified himself as one of the sponsors and asked for her hotel room.
“I gave my phone to a team manager so that she could resolve the issue, but it did not work,” she said.
VandenBerg alleged that the sponsor proceeded to show up at “almost all” of Miss Canada’s engagements, “telling me he could take care of my needs and asked for sexual favors in exchange to get me further in the pageant.”
She did not however divulge the name of the sponsor but she revealed in the post that the said sponsor owns a yacht at the Manila Yacht Club.
VandenBerg brought her concern to Lorraine Shuck, of Carousel Productions who owns and runs the Miss Earth pageant. She said that though Shuck assured her that the sponsor won’t be around anymore still it was an almost 2 weeks of ordeal for her and that some of the issues were never addressed.
