Celso Amo, 66, a veteran journalist and a Philippine Star correspondent was stabbed to death while playing basketball on Sunday morning, November 11.
He was stabebed by a fellow basketball player, Adam Johnson Abanes, 33, from Pilar, Sorsogon.
According to witnesses Abanes was trying to get the ball from Amo, but failed. The suspect then asked Amo for the ball, but the latter refused that started a heated argument. The suspect left the basketball court then came back minutes later carrying with him a knife and started stabbed Amo in the back, chest, and stomach.
Amo was brought to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital by responding policemen. He was declared past 10 a.m. while being treated.
Abanes was arrested and Daraga police are preparing a murder case against him.
Amo left behind his two children, Chuck and Kristela Marie, who are now orphans since his wife died last year due to complications from diabetes. Amo was a retired employee of the Philippine News Agency, a writer for Bicol Mail and was handling the publication of the Legazpi City government, Windows.
