JAPAN: TV show cancels K-Pop group BTS appearance over shirt

The TV appearance of a popular K-POP group BTS was cancelled over a shirt worn by Jimin, one of the members of the group.
A photo was circulated online where Jimin was wearing a shirt with a picture of the US atomic bombing of Japan that killed hundreds of thousands of people. The photo stirred anger. The group later apologized to its fans for not being able to make an appearance.
The 7-member Korean pop group, was originally scheduled to perform on TV Asahi’s Music Station show last Nov. 9.
The “atomic bomb” T-shirt also featured Korean independence slogans that was seen by some as celebrating the bomb which eventually led to the independence of the Korean peninsula from Japanese colonization. To this day, Japan and Korea’s shared wartime history is still a sensitive topic in both countries.
