ZAMBOANGA CITY — An alleged member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was arrested in a coastal barangay here Friday, a top police official said.
Chief Supt. Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office 9 (Zamboanga) director, identified the alleged ASG member as Daud Isnani, 33, a resident of Barangay Arena Blanco, this city.
Licup said Isnani was arrested by operatives of the Regional Anti-Criminality Task Group and Police Station 6 personnel in Barangay Talon-Talon at about 7 a.m.
He said Isnani has a standing seven-count warrant of arrest for the crime of kidnapping and serious illegal detention with no bail recommended issued by a court in Isabela City, Basilan province on January 28, 2008.
Isnani, who was detained at Police Station 6 headquarters, has allegedly taken part in ASG’s kidnapping activities and other atrocities in the provinces of Basilan and Sulu.
The ASG gained international notoriety when they seized 21 people, including Europeans, in an island dive resort in Malaysia in April 2000. (PNA)
