UPDATE -The two bomb explosions that rocked Mount Carmel Cathedral in Jolo, Sulu this morning has already left 27 people dead and the injured has rose to 77.
As per PNP PIO, two explosions occurred— first blast was inside the church while mass was ongoing while the second blast happened in a parked motorcycle outside the church and exploded a few minutes after.
This happened just days after the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) was ratified.
Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) police chief Chief Superintendent Graciano Mijares confirmed the death toll with the following breakdown as of 1:20 pm on Sunday:
- 20 civilians
- 7 soldiers
The ARMM regional police said casualties “were immediately evacuated” as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) secured the area.
The PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) earlier said two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were used to bomb the cathedral.
