2 dead as Army truck, motorcycle collide in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY – Two motorists died and two others were hurt in a freak accident involving a motorbike and an Army truck Friday in the town of Barira, Maguindanao, a police official said. Senior Supt. Ronald Briones, Maguindanao provincial police director, identified the fatalities in the incident as Mohammed Mastura and Jamil Bara, both residents of Barira town. “The fatalities were two of four occupants of a motorbike that collided with an Army truck in an accident,” Briones told reporters here in an interview Saturday.

Citing police reports from Barira town police office, Briones said the victims were hit by a KM-450 truck of the Army’s 37th Infantry Battalion (IB) past noontime Friday. Police investigation showed that the driver of the military truck lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve and accidentally hit a motorcycle with four persons onboard. Soldiers rushed the victims to a hospital in Parang, Maguindanao and eventually moved them to a hospital in Cotabato City. The two injured motorcycle occupants, whom reports failed to identify, are now recuperating at the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center in Cotabato City. The 37th IB has extended help to the families of the fatalities and those injured in the incident. (PNA)
