CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao — An Army technician died after a fall while working on an antenna mast inside the Army’s Camp Gonzalo Siongco here, the military said Tuesday.
Maj. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, the Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander, identified the technician as Pvt. Rico Alcantara, who hailed from Luzon and assigned with the unit’s Signal Maintenance Company.
“His (Alcantara’s) companion, Pvt. Lester Perez, was critically injured,” Sobejana said, adding that the incident happened on Feb. 22 but was only made public Tuesday after his family was officially informed.
Alcantara’s remains are expected to arrive in Metro Manila any time before noontime Wednesday.
Alcantara and Perez were scaling the 100 feet transmission tower to install an internet transmitter unit when it collapsed.
Both technicians were halfway in their work when the freak accident happened.
Sobejana and the entire 6th ID unit condoled with Alcantara’s bereaved family. (PNA)
