“LABELLA’S JINGLE a la DU30”

Call for change and folksinger Freddie Aguilar as its singer. That exactly best describe the campaign jingle of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte during the campaign period in the 2016 polls.

Perhaps thinking of having the same type of jingle that had an impact on the voters, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella also had Aguilar as the singer of his campaign jingle which  also calls for change in the leadership of Cebu City.

The campaign period for local candidates is still next month ( March 30) but Labella and his group already had the public heard a little bit of that.

The ocassion was last Sunday in the Plaza Independencia where both Pres. Duterte and Aguilar were around in the PDP-Laban senatorial rally.

Duterte’s title then had, “Para Sa Tunay Na Pagbabago (For Real Change),” in Labella it’s “Lig-onon ang Pagbag-o (Strengthen The Change),” where both had the same tune and melody.

The lyrics almost had the same context,
too, Duterte’s jingle starts with, “Ikaw ang Pangulo, para pagbabago. Sawa na ang bayan ko sa magnanakaw na tao.” Labella had, “Si Labella ang paglaum sa tinuod nga pagbag-o. Gipul-an na ang syudad ko sa hakog nga tawo.”

Literally therefore both had the same theme, change, pointing to a magnanakaw (thief) in the case of Duterte while that of Labella is about “hakog nga tawo (greedy person).”

In its entirety, both almost had the same context and they are calling for the participation of all people; “Pilipinas” in the case of Duterte while “Sugbuanon” for Labella.

Both jingles also pitch for stamping out corruption  and their other issues although varies, “talamak na crime (worsening crimininality),  rape, droga (drugs), nakawan (stealing),” for Duterte; in Labella it is about “away-away” (bickerings);  panguwarta (money-making);  droga (drugs) and basura (garbage).”

So there you go, the same singer, the same call for change. That helped Duterte won as President, will that also work for Labella? The answer will be known after the May 13 polls. And who knows, the proven political savvy that he is, Tomas Osmena will find an antidote for that. A jingle too? That will be found out in the forthcoming days. For the meantime, do your own comparison on the lyrics of the two.
