VISPOP 2019: A CONTINUING CELEBRATION OF LOCAL MUSIC AND TALENT

The Visayan Pop Songwriting Competition, known as Vispop, has over the years promoted homegrown talents nationwide and brought Visayan music to the hearts of Filipinos with chart-topping hits such as BalayniMayang, LabyuLangga, Dili pa Panahon, Kung Di Pa Lang KoBuang and BuwagBalik.  At the helm of its sixth installment this year is the Sacred Heart School for Boys – Batch 1985 Foundation, Inc., the producers of Binibining Cebu, who is set to bring the campaign to an even larger stage with bigger prizes, grander productions, and all-out sustainable support for the advocacy.

Conceptualized in 2009 and first staged in 2013, Vispop is a brainchild of Artist Ko Multipurpose Cooperative.  It aims to bring the Visayan language and music to the public and support individual creativity, skill and talent by encouraging Visayan-speaking composers and music enthusiasts to write quality Visayan songs that speaks of today’s generation.

Vispop is calling on songwriters and musicians to share their musical abilities and wave the banner for homegrown music and talent by submitting their entries to www.visayanpop.com.   The submission period is from March 1 to May 7, 2019 after which contestants will be narrowed down to the top six finalists who will go on to compete at the Finals Night on July 27, 2019 at the Oakridge Pavillion, Oakridge Business Park, Mandaue City.

The criteria for judging includes Music – 30{a21e6da08482d397a607007d7d78265068006afe8b45ef39eb0952d5fa730076}, Lyrics – 30{a21e6da08482d397a607007d7d78265068006afe8b45ef39eb0952d5fa730076}, and Overall Impact including musical treatment, commercial appeal, radio-friendliness, uniqueness and breakthrough qualities – 40{a21e6da08482d397a607007d7d78265068006afe8b45ef39eb0952d5fa730076}.

Established in 2011, the Sacred Heart School for Boys – Batch 1985 Foundation, Inc. puts the Jesuit ideals of being “men for other” into concrete action, making significant contributions to various organizations and projects that promote local arts, entertainment, talents, tourism, and a sense of community.  Among their other many charitable and social projects are Artabang and Artabangll for the benefit of the Yolanda victims and Marawi siege survivors.  They provided aid and relief to families affected by the earthquake in Ormoc, funded the construction of the first Malasakit Center in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, which brings together all government health agencies under one roof, and continue to reach out to communities affected by fire outbreaks and calamities in Cebu and Visayas.
