Basketball season is back to the entire Cebu Province as the 3rd Cebu Governor’s Cup 2019 Inter-Cities and Municipalities 21-Under Basketball Tournament rolls open its doors in eight different venues this Saturday. A total of 41 teams are joining the competition while awaiting 10 more to confirm its participation as of press time.
Cebu Provincial Sports Commission executive director Ramil P. Abing announced that the change in this year’s opening ceremony was agreed by the mayors and the coaches to do ensure the tournament will end before the May elections. “Unlike the previous years, we will have nine simultaneous opening ceremonies this season.
We wanted to open earlier and start the tournament before the official campaign season begins for the local candidates and end before the May elections,” Abing said at the press conference and official launching of the competition at the Golden Peak Hotel.
The teams who have confirmed its participation includes the City of Talisay, Minglanilla, City of Carcar, City of Naga, Sibonga, San Fernando, Alcoy, Argao, Santander, Oslob, Samboan, Boljoon, Tuburan, Barili, Balamban, Tabuelan, Tabogon, San Remigio, Medellin, Santa Fe, City of Bogo, Madridejos. Borbon, Carmen, Catmon, Sogod, City of Danao, Poro, San Francisco, Tudela, City of Mandaue, Consolacion, Cordova, Dumanjug, Ginatilan, Moalboal, Ronda, Alegria, Badian, Malabuyoc and Alcantara. While the teams that are still doubtful participants are Dalaguete, Aloguinsan, Asturias, Pinamungajan, Toledo City, Compostela, Lilo-an, Pilar, Daan Bantayan and Bantayan. The towns who will host the opening games are Talisay City, Oslob, Tuburan, Bogo City, Consolacion, Catmon and Danao and Dumanjug. According to Abing, the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission will reimburse the towns on their expsense of their opening ceremony. /RCM
