A cop and two others were shot and killed yesterday, all because of the on-going war against drugs.

Police Master Sergeant Mike Espina fall first. He was shot by a proficient marksman who fired at him from a distance using a sniper rifle.

Doctors at the South Gen hospital in Naga City pronounced him dead on arrival after the shooting took place yesterday morning in Dumlog, Talisay City.

Espina used to be assigned at the Talisay police station but was transferred to Masbate in 2017 when all of them were ordered relieved because of dismal performance in the anti-drug campaign.

His relatives told investigators that guns for hire of an Ozamis City drug ring might be responsible for the killing.

Espina was on his poultry when the sniper shot hitting him several times.

Yesterday noon, Neil Benjamin Eugenio Yap, allegedly a member of an ecstasy drug dealing group was also shot dead by a riding in tandem gunman inside his Blue Eon Hyundai vehicle in Highway Seno in Barangay Guizo, Mandaue City.

Police Major Aldrin Villacampa, the Station 1 Chief of the Mandaue City Police Office told Newsph.org that Yap has just attended his court hearing on alleged drug peddling last year when the incident occured.

“Gikan siya nitambong sa hearing sa iyang kaso (He just came from the hearing of his case),” Villacampa said.

Citing the accounts of eyewitnesses Villacampa said that the gunman shot Yap when the nearby traffic light was on a stop signal.

The place of incident was infront of the Palawan pawnshot in the area.

After the shooting, the gunman and his motorcycle driver who both wore full faced closed helmets sped off towards the Mandaue flyover.

Yap is allegedly the cohort of Richard Ngo Go, owner of a hotel in Mandaue City when they were collared in an ecstasy buy-bust operation in January last year.

Go was first arrested then Yap who arrived later after he was baited by a police poseur buyer.

Then, last night, Janelyn Encila, 31, was also shot before she disembarked from a taxi in Sitio Caimito, Labogon, Mandaue City.

Encila just visited her sister Jocelyn and their parents in the Consolacion police stockade as the three allegedly were arrested last Sunday dawn after the cops police found 10 kilos of shabu in their rented house in Green Valley Subdivision in  Barangay Casili.

Jocelyn alias Joy has been tagged as the girlfriend of New Bilibid inmate Rustico Ygot who allegedly is the source of the shabu cache.

Ygot was named by Elymar Ancajas, an underling of Jocelyn who earlier was arrested in Inayawan, Cebu City by Pardo police operatives for possession of 18 kilos of shabu.

Ancajas squealed on Jocelyn which led to the Casili operation resulting to a P199 million estimated worth of shabu discovery.

The gunman walked casuaĺly towards the taxi where Janelyn was and shot her. The victim was with the 13 year-old daughter of Jocelyn who was not hurt however.

Three dead in just a day. Will the counting continue?
