Two overtime and two thrilling comeback wins highlighted the opening day of the Cebu Governor’s Cup 2019 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball tournament.
Carmen needed an extra period before beating Borbon 87-85 in Catmon while the visiting Balamban shocked the host Tuburan with a 97-96 overtime thriller in Tuburan Municipal Gym last night.This was Balamban’s first win overTuburan in the Governor’s Cup.
Samboan banked on the basketball smarts of Joshua Balankig to pull a come-from-behind 79-78 squeaker over Boljoon in Oslob Municipal Gym while Sogod broke the hearts of the home team Catmon 74-73 in Catmon Municipal Gym.
Sixgames were also decided by 20 or more points including a 57-point victory of Danao City over Tudela 119-62, San Franciso’s 39-point win over fellow Camotes Island team Poro 91-62 both games were played at the Danao City Civic Center;Dumanjug pulling a 36-point victory over Alcantara 89-53 at the Jose Macoy Municipal Gym in Dumanjug; defending champions Talisay City Aquastars’ 30-point win over Sibonga Pillars at home 96-66;and the 26-point victories of Bogo City over Santa Fe 88-62 in Don Celestino Martinez Sr. Sports Complex in Bogo City and the 86-60 win over Alcoy Siloys over Santander Kangaroos in Oslob Municipal Gym.
The results of the other games includesNaga City Electrifiers showing a strong start with a 77-61 clubbing over the Carcar City Lechoneros and theMinglanilla Archangels survived with a 73-69 win against the San Fernando Spartans in Talisay City Sports and Cultural Center; Argao pulled the rug from under the home squad Oslob Whale Sharks for a 63-59 win; Tabogon defeated Tabuelan 79-72 and Medellin whipped San Remegio 76-66 in Bogo City,;Consolacion Sarok Weavers stole an 85-78 win against Cordova in Cordova Sports Complex and Moalboal defeated Ronda 78-71in Dumanjug.
Games will resume this Friday still in eight venues around the Cebu Province.
