Drug and alcohol abuse can lead to INCEST and CHILD ABUSE
Not only on the poor… but also on the rich!

Repeatedly raped by her drug addict stepdad, 15 year old “VG” ran away from home and turned to Substance Addiction, Drug Pushing, Snatching, Begging, Stealing, and Prostitution in the streets of Lawton, Manila.

VG lived with her mother, step-dad and 13 year old younger sister. Mom was a “masahista”, step-dad a jobless addict-alcoholic. Whenever mom was away, “dad” would RAPE HER REPEATEDLY. Tragically each time she would tell her mother, she would not believe her and BOTH would beat her up for “making up stories”!

So she suffered the multiple rape in silence….until she found out that even her 13 year old sister was being raped too and now pregnant with the step-dad.

She went to the Barangay to report it and the step-dad was detained. But soon as the mother found out, she had him released and castigated VG!

So VG ran away and lived in the streets along Lawton. She sold shabu if she had money and if not, she would buy a bottle of rugby (industrial solvent) and sell it to the “rugby kids” for a profit. When there was nothing to eat anymore, she would rummage among trash looking for thrown left-overs from Jollibee and McDonalds.

When she was brought to our rehab, we asked her how she managed to live in that “life of hell”. She answered… “COMPARED TO LIVING IN MY HOME, LIFE IN THE STREETS IS HEAVEN”

There are many victims like “VG” who are helpless and have no choice but to survive. And sadly, many who betrayed them are the very people who are supposed to protect them./LG
