JM Andrejas of Team Joeric of Mandaue City delivered more punches on his way to claim a unanimous decision victory over Arielle Garth Llamas of Team Cebu City in the battle of two Batang Pinoy Cebuano gold medallists at the PSC Monthly – Fiesta Amateur Boxing Challenge in Ginatilan town last Sunday.
Llamas had a strong start and dominated Andrejas in the opening round to earn a 10-9 scores from all three judges.
However, the Cebu City fighter slowly lost steam and allowed Andrejas to pick up momentum to turn the next two rounds in his favour as judges Rashed Bacus, Joselito Hermoso and Edcel Tunacao all scored an identical 29-28 scores in favour to give the Cebu Province fighter the victory.
But another Batang Pinoy gold medallist Sean Oneil Abello also of Team Joeric was not luck as JB Barricuatro of 10,000 BC of Talisay City pulled a surprising split decision win in their 36kgs match.
Bacus and Hermoso both gave Barricuatro a 30-27 while Tunacao saw it a 29-28 win for Abello.
Meanwhile, Team Cebu City’s John Kevin Jimenez vented his ire on Eduard Serrano of Team Seva for a unanimous decision win in the 46kgs weight class. Jimenez settled lost the gold medal in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet because of a shabby decision and settled for a bronze medal in the Batang Pinoy Visayas Leg after losing to bigger opponent in the semifinal round.
While Alex Del Rio of Team Joeric, Kevin Sumalinog of Team Seva and Jimpol Dignos also of Team Joeric each scored a Referee Stop Contest (RSC) win over their respective opponents.
Del Rio dominated the winded Jerwin Matayao of Team Cebu City for an RSC win at the 1:31 mark of the third round in the 48kgs match, Sumalinog proved too much for local talent Rico Bongca of Campisong, Ginatilan for a stoppage at the 1:16 on the second round of the 49kgs match and Jimpol Dignos was better prepared against John Ro Taneo as the bout was stopped at the 2:14 mark of the third round of the 54kgs bout.
The results of the other bouts: Janus Lincoln Llamas of Team Cebu City wins by split decision over Egie Naquines of 10,000 BC, Wyn Cabradilla of 10,000 BC beat Khyl Sumalinog of Team Seva, Norman Russiana of CTU scored a unanimous decision win over Bryan Neri of CNU, Patrhiricia Mae Sumalinog had a split decision win over Cristy Mae Naquines, Eduardo Jimenez dominated the bout for a unanimous decision victory against Roque Gonzalo, Faith Colin Llamas eked out a split decision win over Jhea Jane Bacayan, Clinton Martinez dominated Ramil Manguilimotan and Crizaldi Dacumos pulled a unanimous decision win over Francis Portaleo.
Jomar Laudo also had a unanimous decision win over Jamel Aranas, Alexander Aras beat Kurt Laurence Magsanay, Clester Nino Dayota defeated Jehyan Dayagbil, Keith Nino Velez prevailed against Lance Ulbenario and Jemuel Aranas won by unanimous over Crestian Dayondon.
