“LAPU COP CHIEF DENIES RELEASING PHOTO OF CULT LEADER AS SILAWAN SUSPECT”

By Tonton Alcos Antogop

The chief of police of Lapu-Lapu City denies releasing the photo of alleged cult leader Jonas Bueno as the prime suspect in the gruesome murder of Christine Lee Silawan. “I categorically deny releasing the photo of the suspect,” Colonel Lemuel Obon, the Chief of Police of Lapu-Lapu City told DyMF Bombo Radyo Thursday night. A local paper however quoting its counterpart from Manila as sources reported that Jonas Bueno has been identified by the police and that a photo has been released to the public.

The same report quoted Police Regional Director Debold Sinas as saying that he already ordered a manhunt for Bueno. Bueno is the leader of the feared Buenos Brothers gang that operates in the hinterlands of Danao and Carmen. Jonas and his brothers Junrey and Juvy allegedly skinned to death a farmer identified as Trinidad Batucan last January 11, 2019. Junrey and Juvy died in a shootout with the police two days after but Jonas escaped.

Like Batucan’s Silawan was also skinned to the bone. She sustained 30 stab wounds and was half naked to the waist. Her tonque was plucked out while her trachea (windpipe) and esophagus were ripped. Her right ear was knifed. Jonas who is described as armed and dangerous reportedly managed to recruit other gang members even while he has wanted by the police. Silawan was an alms collector in the Sacred Heart Parish in Barangay Pajac.

She served last Sunday afternoon but was abducted on that night. Her corpse was found the morning after in a grassy lot in Barangay Bankal. A bounty of P2 million has been raised which would be given to the informant that will lead to the capture of perpetrators of Silawan. The photo of Jonas has also been circulating in the social media.
