The photo leakage linking Jonas Bueno to the killing of Christine Lee Silawan was “calculated.”
This is according to source who is privy to the ongoing investigation of the celebrated murder case which already reached the attention of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.
“Sinadya yun, calculated baga, para makuha siya,” the source who requested anonymity told Newsph.org.
The source said that the decision to leak the photo was made after Bueno’s whereabouts was not already clear to tracker teams that were sent to Danao City and the towns of Sogod and Carmen.
Leaking Bueno’s photo according to the source would not constitute a legal problem because the subject had a pending warrant of arrest for murder.
Both Regional Police Director Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas and Regional Intelligence Division (RID) Chief Col. Remus Medina denied releasing the photo however but according to the source the Manila based reporter who first broke about the photo release of Bueno is a “friend” to a senior police officer based in Camp Sergio Osmena, the headquarters of the Police Regional Office (PRO-7).
The leakage was described by Lapu-Lapu City Police Director Colonel Lemuel Obon as “fake news” but just hours after the presscon in Lapu-Lapu City where Obon was present and later in Camp Osmena where Gen. Sinas was around along with Obon, Bueno was arrested in Davao City.
PRO-11 Regional Police Director Marcelo Morales revealed that an informant approached them to report the presence of Bueno after seeing the photo that went viral online.
Gen. Sinas categorically said that Bueno was not their primary suspect in the killing of Silawan but he still wanted him arrested alive so that he will be questioned.
Bueno was earlier described as “armed and dangerous” but he was not armed when collared by the Davao City lawmen.
His arrest warrant was for the murder of Trinidad Batucan last January 11 in Danao City who like Silawan was also skinned to death.
“We also have another team looking for Jonas Bueno in case makuha namo siya we just would like to engage him what really happened but si Jonas is not a suspect,” Sinas said.
Bueno was arrested in Purok Santiago, Barangay Matina Crossing, Davao City.
He reportedly admitted to Davao police investigators his participation in the killing of Batucan but denied being responsible on Silawan.
His lived-in partner, Connie Nacion, also defended Bueno, claiming that they arrived in Davao City last February yet.
Silawan’s corpse was just found last March 4 in a grassy lot in Barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City.
According to Nacion they took a boat from Cebu and briefly stayed in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte before they proceeded to Davao to look for a job.
The operatives of the Lapu-Lapu City City police, the RID and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-7) are already in Davao to coordinate with their counterparts to continue their investigation.
Bueno is expected to be brought to Cebu as he will be presented to Danao City RTC Branch 25 Judge Jerry Dicdican who issued his warrant of arrest.
