A Sara Duterte presidency is seemingly really shaping. That is, if one will gauge it on the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HnP) senatorial caravan in Cebu. Cebu City mayoralty aspirant Edgardo Labella clearly stated it and four others also said so. “Sa umaabot nga (in the forthcoming) 2022, the next President of the Republic of the Philippines Mayor Inday Sara Duterte ,” Labella said as he welcome those around in the IEC Convention Center of Cebu Thursday.
Earlier in the day, Mandaue City Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing also addressed Sara as the “next President” in their separate HnP senatorial caravan in Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex. Former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. who is also being endorsed by HnP called the Davao City Mayor as “Madame President.” “Sa amin pong napakasipag na campaign manager, aking hinahangaan, sinasaluduhan, walang iba kundi sigurado ako susunod sa yapak ng kanyang ama, ang ating mahal, mahal namin, mahal ninyo, walang iba si – Mayor Inday Sara Duterte…Madame President,” Revilla said in his campaign speech.
Maguindanao Congressman Sajid “Dong” Mangudadatu, also said in almost the same context. “Ang musunod nga Presidente sa atung nasud, puhon (the next President of our country, in the future), Mangudadatu said. For former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief and Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, it is his dream that the presidential daughter will be like her father.
“Ako gyud nang pangandoy ug akong damgo nga unta siya ang musunod nga Presidente sa Pilipinas (it is realy my wish and dream that she would be the next President of our country),” Dela Rosa said. In her speech however, the Presidential daughter never talked about it. She just focused on campaigning for their HnP endorsed candidates. And then she thanked the Cebuanos for their support to their family.
“Ang amuang pamilya dunay dakong utang nga kabubut-on sa inyohang tanan, sa oportunidad nga gihatag ninyo sa iyaha nga mahimong Presidente sa atuang nasud. Magpasalamat pud mi, ang amuang tibuok pamilya sa inyong padayun nga pag suporta sa iyahang (our family had a debt of gratitude to all of you, for the opportunity that you gave him to be President of our country. We are also thankful, our entire family for your continued support of his) administration,” she said.
She might have ignored it but she heard it and so we will wait, whether indeed another Duterte will run for the Presidency after Pres. Rodrigo Duterte will vow out in 2022. Meanwhile, according to Labella about 8,000 people have attended the HnP senatorial caravan. Labella said the crowd swelled even outside the convention hall as the seating capacity of the venue is only 5,000. Four of the 13 senatorial aspirants being endorsed by HnP were not present, Sen. JV Ejercito, Sen. Cynthia Villar, Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara and former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.
Go sent comedy actor Bayani Agbayani as proxy. Apart from Dela Rosa, Revilla and Mangudadatu, those around were Sen. Koko Pimentel, Cong. Pia Cayetano, Gov. Imee Marcos, ex-Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, former Political Affairs Sec. Francis Tolentino and former broadcaster Jiggy Manicad. Rapper Andrew E entertained the crowd along with novelty singer Norman Mitchel and stand-up comedian Eric Nicolas. Labella’s ticket of the Barug PDP-Laban was not in full attendance however.
His running mate, ex-Mayor Michael Rama was present but two in the council slate were not, Erik Espina and incumbent City Councilor Pastor Alcover. Actor Richard Yap who is contesting Cebu City North district Congressman Raul del Mar was also present along with City Councilor Atty. Joy Pesquera who is running against South district Rep. Rodrigo Abellanosa.
The council slate in the south district has CHEZ CORE as acronym, Carillo (Gerald), Esparis (Francis) Honteviros (Donaldo), Zafra (Philip) Cuenco (Antonio) Osmena (Renato) Rama (Edu) , Espina (Eric) while the north is MAHAL WGG Mabatid (Nina) Ayuman (Ramil) , Herrera (Ernest), Alcover (Pastor) , Lauron (Rey), Wenceslao (Noel) , Garganera (Joel) and Garcia (Raymund).
