“DERRICK MONASTERIO WILL BE KING LAPU-LAPU FOR KADAUGAN SA MACTAN 2019, COSPLAY STAR SARROSA IS REYNA BULAKNA”

Kapuso star Derrick Monasterio will play the role of King Lapu-Lapu this year in the re-enactment of Kadaugan sa Mactan (Battle of Mactan) 2019. Monasterio the son former actress Tina Monasterio will pair with Myrtle Sarrosa, the Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Season 4 grand winner who is a known “cosplay (costume player) of Kapamilya network ABS-CBN.

To act as Magellan in the re-enactment that is described as “spectacular” this coming April 27 at the Liberty Shrine in Barangay Mactan is the upcoming Filipino-Croatian Actor Mark Neuman.

Lapu-Lapu City tourism officer Hembler Mendoza said that despite a meager budget of P6.6 million this year’s reenactment rites will be grander. The city government spent P8 million last year but the decrease in the budget will not affect the holding of the activities as the private sector especially the hotels, restaurants, and resorts in the island have helped them.

“It”s management, monetary management. This is a lot grander than you expected this year,” Mendoza declared in a presscon today in the Marina Seaview and Resto Lounge to formally launch the festivities which will start tomorrow.

Highly respected winning choreographer and stage director Victor Hao Cuenco will again direct this year’s 499th commemoration of the Battle of Mactan where Lapu-Lapu defeated the Spaniards led by Magellan on April 27, 1521.

Mendoza said the venue can accommodate up to a maximum of 40, 000 spectators as the area has been developed and expanded. In the evening of the reenactment day, the traditional Rampada (Rampa sa Karsada) will be made behind closed doors however to avoid the monstrous traffic that it will create.

The Rampada 2019 will be held instead in the Hoops Dome along with the Search for Reyna Bulakna. Lapu-Lapu City Police Deputy Director Lieutenant Colonel Regie Real said they are deploying a sizeable contingent to provide security for the event.

Real reminded spectators that bringing of liquors and other intoxicating drinks are not allowed. As all will be subjected to inspection before they can enter the reenactment area, the public is advised not to bring large bags.

If the need arises, they will also announce if backpacks will be banned in the area.
