Franz Cabilao Sabalones in real life, in death, he was Jerome Cabilao. Sabalones, 41, was shot in the head by a lone gunman past 12 midnight today outside a popular resto-bar along Mother Ignacia Ave. In Quezon City. He drove to the area along with his friends from Las Pinas where he lived in Metro Manila supposedly to watch a billiard game, but before he could do so, was shot instead after he alighted from their vehicle.
When the police checked his ID’s, he is “Jerome Cabilao,”. Cebu Provincial Police Director Manuel Abrugena confirmed the death of Sabalones through his counterparts from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD). Sabalones has been the subject of a police manhunt as he reportedly is still active in the illegal drug business even if he already voluntarily surrendered to former PNP Chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa in August 2016.
Last March 1, high-powered firearms and a hand grenade were seized by the police in his house in Modena Subdivision, Barangay Tunghaan, Minglanilla when the men of Abrugena from the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) and the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) raided his bungalow based on a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 60 (Barili) Executive Judge Leopoldo Cañete.
The lawmen chanced upon on Sabalones common law-wife Winefreda Misa, 33 and their two children. Despite his surrender, Sabalones who would have his birthday next week, April 27, was tagged by authorities to have assumed as the top drug trafficker in Central Visayas after Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz was killed in June 2016. Diaz and his driver, Paul Vincent Igloria, were killed in a shoot-out with operatives from the Central Visayas Regional Intelligence Division (RID) and the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) in Las Pinas City.
Their third companion, identified as Alvaro Alvaro aka Barok, also a top drug personality in Cebu, was able to escape. Alvaro surrendered and is now detained in the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC). Before he started his alleged involvement in the drug trade Sabalones used to work as a traffic enforcer in Cebu City.
His twin brother, Fralz Sabalones, is the Vice Mayor of San Fernando, Cebu and is included in the drug list revealed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte. About P350 million of assets of Franz is being frozen by the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) pending their investigation as to where the money came from in acquiring the properties.
