About 12, 000 youth pilgrims from all over the country will be in Cebu starting tomorrow for the National Youth Day (NYD) 2019.

Slated from April 23-28, NYD 2019, will be attended by no less than Papal Nuncio Gabrielle Giordano Caccia who is expected to arrive on Wednesday.

The activity which coincides with the “Year of the Youth” as announced by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) will also have CBCP Pres. Romulo Valles, the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Davao as one of its attendees.

A procession which is expected to be joined by all the youth delegates and other Catholic faithful will have an assembly at the Cebu City Sports Center up to the Basilica del Santo Nino on Wednesday evening.

In the final coordinating conference and press con today, Police Regional Director Brigadier General Debold Sinas announced that the police will implement a red alert security status for the entire duration of the activity which will also have a “Youth Festival” that will be held in nine selected festival sites in the different parts of Metro Cebu.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma also attended the presscon which was held at the Archbishop Palace, along with the organizers of the activity, which served as the Philippine version of the World Youth Day in Panama last January 22-27, 2019 where Pope Francis was present.

Like the World Youth Day, the NYD 2019, will have the theme, ‘I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.”

The NYD delegates will be housed in different seminaries and convent dormitories in Cebu and at least 3,000 host families, its organizers said.

The festival sites will be the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR) gym and International Eucharistic Congress Convention Center (IEC) in Cebu City, Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue Cultural and Sports Complex in Mandaue City and the gyms in Talisay City, Naga, Minglanilla, Liloan, and Consolacion.
