Talisay, Tuburan keeps immaculate record in Cebu Guv’s Cup Quarterfinals

REIGNING Governor’s Cup champion Talisay City Aquastars and Team Tuburan are nearing to the most anticipated showdown as they continued to hold its fort strong on its quest for the top two seats in Group B following their successful wins in the resumption of the Cebu Governor’s Cup 2019 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament in Alegria Sports Complex Monday night.

Talisay City stamped its dominance over the inaugural champions and First District rivals Minglanilla Archangels following a 91-78 win while Tuburan defeated Sogod 90-81, as both teams kept an immaculate 3-0 record in the quarterfinal round. The home team Alegria, on the other hand, lived up to expectations as they scored a 111-99 win over the visiting Team Tabuelan in the main game.

Joyce Lee Oropiano scored the game-high 23 points, Romyr Kirt Gonzaga added 22 points, Raindee Sipalay contributed 18 and Miguelito Jusay finished with 11 points as Tuburan handed its fourth straight losses in the quarterfinal round.

Talisay meanwhile started the game on a high note, leaving Minglanilla 31-10 in the opening quarter, and dropped another 28-14 blitz in the second period to build a 35-point lead after the first half, 59-24.

Although Minglanilla managed to find its rhythm in the second half behind the hot hands of Marc Justine Nebril and Acer Go, the Archangels could not find a way to shut down the offense of the Aquastars as they suffered its second loss in four games.

 Alegria, on the other hand, had 24 points each from Jamil Mahinay and Chris Ryan Garcia and 17 points each from Patrick Devila and Jomarie Ramos and an 11 points production from Christian Jay Garcia to score their first win the quarters despite the absence of its team captain Rojan Montemayor to hand Tabuelan its third loss in four games.

While in Group A competition, Medellin and Balamban are now locked and tied for the second place following their respective wins at the Exasperanza S. Binghay Sports Complex in Balamban.

Medellin survived the 31-points explosion of Jomari Parantar for a 94-84 win against Argao Archangels to score its third win in four games while the home team ASB Balamban controlled the game from start to finish to beat Siempre Samboan 77-65, its third win against one loss.

While Danao City finally made it to the winner’s column following a 96-70 victory over Dumanjug in the opening game.

James Albert Cahigas top scored with 20 points, Ace Rondina added 18, Ken Clark Montero finished with 16, John Edward Jabonete made 11 and Carl Vincent Molina fired 10 as Danao City arrested a two-game slide for its first win in three games, while Clester Quinanola lead Dumanjug scorer with 20 points, Jade Canete made 14 and Arnold Villarojo finished with 10 points as the 7th District champions suffered its third loss in a row.
