Balamban, Minglanilla complete Gov’s Cup semis cast

ASB Balamban Shipbuilders and Minglanilla Archangels completed the cast of the semifinalists of the Cebu Governor’s Cup 2019 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament following the conclusion of the quarterfinal round held simultaneously at two different venues, Sunday night.
Balamban survived a tough nip-and-tuck game before nipping the 4th District champions Medellin Sweeteners with a 76-71 thriller in Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex for the second slot in Group A while Minglanilla clinched the second semis seat Group B after topping the tiebreaker system after creating a triple tie situation for the no.2 finisher.
Consolacion Sarok Weavers defeated Tabuelan 107-97 and the  Talisay City  Aquastars trounced Tuburan 92-81 that created a three-way situation for the second semis slot as the three teams finished the quarterfinal race with identical 4-2 win-loss records.
 After the tiebreaker,  Minglanilla which was boosted by a 101-88 win over Consolacion eventually topped computation with 1.048 quotients, Tuburan which defeated Minglanilla 88-73 had the second highest at 1.006 and Consolacion which own a 90-76 win over Tuburan had the lowest at 0.949.
The results semifinalists was a little surprising as Tuburan and Medellin were highly favored to make it to the semis.
Balamban turned to Jacob Fernandez who scattered nine of his 21 points in the final period to lead the Shipbuilders sneak up front in the final period.
Albert John Sacayan added 19 points, Jushoa Gellacone contributed 18 points and Rickyboy Timosa tallied 11 points for Balamban while Fritz Saladaga made 21 points, Roland Canales and Menchell Remulta scored 11 points each and Gelmart Umpad finished with 10 points for Medellin.
In the other games, Keaton Clyde Taburnal scored 21 points, Clark Louis Ruedas and Jay Deiparine added 18 each and Raffy Bacasma finished with 10 as Talisay City finished unscathed in the six quarterfinals round to top Group B.
Paul John Sungahid scored his season-high 21 points, Kenneth Brillo contributed 13, Gab Cometa made 12 points and Jhunn Art Marco finish with 11 points as Mandaue City stretched its winning run to nine following a 102-87 beat down over Dumanjug to top Group A.
Danao City defeated Argao Archangels 88-84 with Justine Mondares nailed seven triples of his team-high 25 points and Sogod picked its first win in the quarters following a 103-96 win over Alegria.
The knockout crossover semifinal games will be held on Tuesday evening with Mandaue City Ballers hosting the Minglanilla Archangels at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Center and the defending champions will try to make its second appearance in the finals as they host ASB Balamban in Talisay City Sports and Cultural Complex.
