DAVAO City — Barefoot runner Lheslie De Lima successfully defended the Secondary Girls 3,000-meters Run title after completing the seven and a half laps race in 10 minutes and 22.42 seconds ahead of the pack for the 2019 Palarong Pambansa first gold medal at the University of Mindanao track oval.
Central Visayas Region, however, got its first gold medal courtesy from the Elementary Boys Blitz team that is made up of Jerish John Velarde and Michael Jan Stephen Iñigo.
Aside from the gold medal, Velarde also contributed a silver to the medal count of Central Visayas and Iñigo handing a bronze medal. Kryztyl Badilles won the bronze medal in the Elem. Girls blitz individual while April Joy Claros of Central Luzon pocketing the gold and Jersey Marticio of Calabarzon winning the silver medal.
Cemberain Muanag of Caraga Region won the individual gold medal and anchored the team’s silver medal finish.
Calabarzon also bagged the gold medal in the team competition with Central Luzon and Northern Mindanao finishing behind respectively.
CVIRAA had one more bronze medal in the Blitz competition courtesy from Duane Borgonia in the Secondary Boys event.
The two gold medals in this category went to Calabarzon coming from Daniel Quizon in the Individual event and from Quizon and Japheth Aaron Carsosa in the team event. The Silver in the Individual event went to Eric Labog Jr. of NCR and also the silver medal in the team event along with Cebuano Chris Aldritz Podoyo. While the bronze medal in the team event was won by Christian James Aquino and Adrian Othniel Yulo of Northern Mindanao.
A silver medal was also won by Central Visayas Secondary Blitz team of Alphecca Gonzales and Sarah Francine Olendo while the gold medal was won by Kylen Joy Mordido and Jerlyn Mae San Diego also of Calabarzon.
Mordido won the Individual gold while Checy Aliena Telesforo of Western Visayas won the silver medal and Olendo added a bronze to CVIRAA collection.
The 14-year old Grade 9 student Baao National High School in Camarines Sur completed her three-peat despite finishing 16 seconds slower from her last year’s golden feat for Bicol Region Athletic Association.
Camila Tubiano of Northern Mindanao won the silver medal (10:32.32) and Lovely Cordovilla of Central Luzon won the Bronze medal (10:38.82).
Also keeping the title won last year was Algin Gomez of Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association (CAVRAA) who made a record leap of 7.55 meters to win the gold medal in the secondary boys Long Jump competition.
The National Capital Region also gain share of the gold medal haul in the track and field event following the victory of Ainah Masangkay in the Secondary Girls Discuss Throw event, with a record of 34.26 meters throw. Although her winning throw was 2.15 meters shorter from last year, her performance this year earned her a gold medal compared to a silver medal finish in 2018.
In secondary boys basketball, Zamboanga Peninsula defeated the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu manned Central Visayas 69-48 while the Elementary Boys team of Region 7 got back at ZPRAA following a 60-32 over at the Holy Cross Davao College gym.
ZPRAA earlier scored a 40-34 win over MIMAROPA, Ilocos Region defeated Bicol Region 58-52, Central Luzon routes Socksargen 63-47, Cordillera Region beat Cagayan Valley Region 52-45 and Davao Region whipped Eastern Visayas 73-40 at the Rizal Memorial College Gym
In secondary football, CALABARZON just handed Central Visayas a frustrating 2-0 defeat to notch its second win. Region 7 drew its game against Davao Region last Friday. While CVIRAA elementary boys football team pocketed two wins already with one more game to play against Ilocos Region on Tuesday.
In Secondary volleyball, the Central Visayas Girls team defeated SockSargen in two sets, 25-19; 25-18; Central Luzon defeated MIMAROPA 25-23, 25-15; Cordillera beat Caraga (2-0), Western Visayas lorded over Cagayan Valley (2-0), Davao Region downed Zamboanga Peninsula (2-0), CALABARZON was too much for Bangsamoro-ARMM (2-0) and Eastern Visayas defeated MIMAROPA 2-1.
