A Filipino-American18-year-old physical therapy coed from Consolacion town is Miss Mandaue 2019.
Lorraine Hann is no stranger to beauty titles though as she was crowned Miss Consolacion 2017, Miss Cesafi high-school in 2018 and Miss Governor’s Cup 2018.
Outside of being a beauty titlist, she is also a multi-titled swimmer, which she said, was the reason why she took up physical therapy course in Cebu Doctor’s University (CDU) to compliment her athletics. She finished high school in the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu also in Mandaue City.
Hann got the nod of the majority of the panel of judges chaired by fashion designer Renee Salud after she answered the ultimate question for the last three finalists of the pageant held Tuesday at the jampacked Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
The question was, “As Mandaue City turns fifty as a chartered city, what slogan or hashtag would you propose to inspire and motivate the millennial Mandauehanon to push for the progress and livability of the city in the next fifty years?,” to which she answered, “It would have to be #ProgressMandaue because as a citizen of Mandaue the first thing that comes to mind is progress. Mandaue City has been progressing over the years, especially this year that is the fiftieth year. The Mandauehanons are very participative people, they listen to their leaders and aside from that, they are also very welcoming and to the succeeding years I hope that Mandaue City will continue to progress – and sustainability.”
Program host, Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry Amman also asked the same question to finalists Jessele Saniel and Amanda Basnillo who took the 2nd runner-up and 1st runner-up respectively.
Aside from her crown, Hann, who was born in Michigan, USA before moving to Cebu, also took home P100,000.00, a scholarship and P500,000.00 funding for her chosen advocacy among the residents of the city.
Interestingly, the 5’8 stunner who won a gold medal in swimming in the PRISAA meet in 2018 and a bronze medal in the Palarong Pambansa that same year did not win in any of the special awards but her wit prevailed during the preliminary question round hosted by lawyer Michelle Mendez-Palmares among the 8 semi-finalists of the pageant.
That led her to the top 3 among the 16 hopefuls where she gave the best answer to the agreement of the judges which also included Miss Mandaue 2013 and Binibining Cebu 2018 Steffi Rose Aberasturi.
Basnillo, 17, also of Consolacion, bagged the best in evening gown and the earlier media’s choice award which was held last April 24 in Maayo Hotel.
Saniel, 19, from Talisay City, took the best in swimsuit and best in runway costume.
The rest of the awardees were; Lorraine Mitzi Ambrad, Best in Talent and Miss Congeniality, Christine Rudolph, Miss Photogenic, Aijeleth Borja as Miss Professionalism and
Umayma Alrawahi for Best Designer award of Mel Maria.
Aside from Amman, the other hosts were Vince Escario, Nicole Tuason and Jonathan Cimafranca.
Singer-actor Vin Abrenica entertained the crowd.
A pure breed Mandauehanon, Miss Mandaue 2018 Gabriella Ceniza Carballo, who was impressive in her impromptu farewell speech, relinquished her crown to Hann whom she advised to live up to the title.
Mayor Gabrielle Luis “Luigi” Quisumbing led the city officials who witnessed the pageant dubbed “Miss Mandaue 2019 Gold Edition” in sync with the city’s 50th charter day anniversary this year.
Even if its close to the May 13 elections on Monday, the organizers decided to make the pageant free from the presence of national politicians.
