The hotel and resort employees will take a break from the grinding hospitality and restaurant works as they embarked on a 2-month long Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu Inc. (HRRACI) Sportsfest 2019, set to take off on May 28 and end in a grand fashion on July 21.“We are all excited in this Sportsfest, which follows our ‘Cebu goes culinary’ event last October.

This is the most awaited event of our association as our members including the academe and our families are participating in this sportsfest,” Cebu Grand Hotel General Manager Carlo Anton Suarez, the president of HRRACI, told sports scribes at the press conference at Casa Verde restaurant in Arlington Pond in Ramos.

What made this event very exciting is that all teams have to wait for two years for their sporting spectacle.“The thing is, our Sportsfest comes only every two years, this is a biennial event. So everybody is excited to play. Everybody is participating, especially this year, where we include parlor games for our family members who wanted to watch the final games,” added Brian Noel, the General Manager of Casa Verde and HRACCI vice-president for Restaurant.

A total of 22 properties (hotel, resorts, and restaurants) are competing in 11 different events with the banner basketball competition set to start on May 28 at the Capitol Parish Gym. The second most popular event – volleyball will open on the first week of June – at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu old campus gym.

The other sporting events include swimming, bowling, billiards, darts, badminton, chess, table tennis, cheer dance and the much-anticipated selection of the Mr. & Ms. HRACCI 2019.Shangrila-Mactan is set to defend its basketball title against 17 challengers which were divided into two brackets – the Mactan Bracket and the Cebu Bracket.

The Cebu Bracket will be played at the Capitol Parish Gym while the Mactan group will be played at the Villa Magallanes courts in Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.Twenty teams will vie for the volleyball titles – 12 participating in the Men’s competition and 8 are competing in the Women’s event.

The Swimming competition will be held at the Cebu City Sports Center, bowling, billiards, and darts will be held at the Gaisano Bowlingplex, badminton will be at the Racquetzone while chess, table tennis, cheer dance and the Mr.&Ms. HRACCI will be held at the culminating venue – the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Gym on July 21st.

We are also expecting culinary surprises and displays from the participants just like last year,” Suarez added.HRACCI pride themselves as more organized and closely knitted than the other hotels and resorts and restaurants organization in the country.
