CEBU, PHILIPPINES- A barangay tanod who is the father of a group of brothers who allegedly killed a town chief of police during the Christmas eve of 2016 was arrested by the Carmen police earlier today, May 20, 2019. Camilo Jayson, 58, was arrested near his residence in Sitio Son-ok, Fuente, Carmen in the possession of the 9mm Glock pistol of the late police Captain Alex Nunez, then the chief of police of Catmon town.
Jayson’s sons, Ricardo, Jaime, Carlo and Camilo, Jr. were tagged for shooting to death of Nunez last December 2016 also in Barangay Fuente after the police officer killed their other brother, Carlito, in self-defense. Nunez passed by the area on his way him to Cordova on a roadside store when he noticed the commotion prompting him to disembarked from his vehicle and introduced himself as a police officer. Carlito, however, shot him forcing Nunez to shot back but as he was walking back towards his Isuzu Crosswind after taking the gun of Carlito, the four ganged up on him, Ricardo seized his firearm, killing Nunez. The brothers then fled leaving Nunez and Carlito dead, taking the firearms of both. In a follow-up operation, Ricardo and Carlito were shot dead by responding policemen and arrested Carlo. Jaime fled but later surrendered to the Guihulngan police station in Negros Oriental last January 2017. Their father managed to become a barangay tanod but at past 11am today, he reportedly brandished a gun and fired indiscriminately prompting his neighbors to report to the police. Camilo was arrested in the possession of a .357 revolver with ammunition and the Glock service firearm of Nunez bearing its serial no. PNP29749. Cebu Provincial Director Colonel Manuel Abrugena rendered a report to Regional Police Director Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas about the arrest. “Aforesaid suspect was arrested by personnel of this station after he was caught on the act in possession of firearm and ammunition and likewise arrested for possession of the service/issued firearm of Late PSI Alexander M Nunez who was killed by the suspect’s son last December 24, 2016,” a portion of Abrugena’s report stated. Charges of illegal possession of firearms and violation of the election gun ban are now being prepared against the elder Jayson.
