CEBU City, Philippines – Carlo Demecillo was the busier puncher en route to winning the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific Youth Bantamweight crown after beating Junriel Jimenez by Majority Decision in the 10-round main event contest of the Big Yellow Promotion’s Fight Night II at the Robinsons Galleria-Cebu Atrium Wednesday evening.
The bigger and taller Demecillo, who fought under the Big Yellow Stable dominated the first to the 6th round, as Jimenez opted to be on the defense despite clearly enjoying a skills advantage.
It was only on the 7th round that Jimenez became aggressive and managed to put Demecillo on a tight situation for most of the time.
However, that performance of Jimenez failed to impress the ringside judges as Demecillo got away with a 97-93 and 99-91 decisions from Edward Ligas and Edward Olalo while the third judge Tony Pisons scored a 95-95 draw.
The results of the undercard include Elmer Naason scoring a TKO win over Matthew Fundales at the 1:09 mark of the fourth round in the Jr. The welterweight bout, Rhonvex Capuloy surviving a nasty cut above his right eye to score a TKO win at the 2:02 mark of the second round against Japanese Toushin Battulga in the featherweight bout.
Clyde Azarcon defeating Ernesto Alera by unanimous decision after eight rounds of strawweight match and Virgil Vitor showed too much power as he scored a knockout win over Jeffrey Stella at the 2:41 mark of the second of an 8-round featherweight bout. /Rommel C. Manlosa
