LAPU-LAPU CITY, PHILIPPINES- Outgoing City Mayor Paz Radaza called it as an insult to the Oponganon the announcement of incoming City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan that non-residents of Lapu-Lapu City will sit as department heads once he assumes office.

Radaza said its Chan’s prerogative but putting non-residents somehow put its residents in a bad light. “Kanang gi-name names nga taga Cebu City and some of the Mandaue City, yeah its his prerogative ang ato na lang ba, most probably naingon ana kay unsa ni walay maayong tawo sa Lapu-Lapu?

Apil siya di siya maayong tawo kay Cebu City man ang iyang gipanguha, apil siya, ni-comment lang ko.” Radaza who is bowing out tomorrow, June 30, but will assume as the Congresswoman of the city said Lapu-Lapu developed and has become a lone congressional district while having city residents (Oponganon) as department heads at city hall.

She said, all the department heads under her watch are Oponganon. “Nahimo na biya tang ingon ani. Nahimo tang lone district, nahimo tang kuan, niasenso ang syudad sa Lapu-Lapu because of the Oponganon not because of the Cebu City.

Of course tanan gyud, dili halos, tanan, because you are serving people, you’ve got to understand the people of Lapu-Lapu kay mu-serve man gud ka.” Most of the incoming department heads as announced by Chan have served Cebu City which Radaza detested.

“Ang ako lang niana ba, mga friends man nako nang uban, amigo man nako. Ang ako lang ba nga gi-announce nga sila…it’s an insult to the Oponganon.” Chan is not immediately available for his reaction but he earlier justified his action saying those that are coming with him are competent and experienced.

Prominently mentioned by Chan as his new department heads are lawyer Danilo Almendras, the present city administrator of Mandaue City who will become the new Lapu-Lapu City administrator; Annabeth Cuizon, the current assistant Cebu City administrator who will also be the assistant of Almendras;

Nagiel Banacia, Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO); Ronald Malacora, chief of the General Services Office (GSO), the outgoing head of the Cebu City Department of General Services; Gary Lao of the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP), among others.

Chan denied that a politician or anybody has influenced his decision. He himself, have evaluated the qualifications of those that will come with him./AAJ
