CEBU CITY, Philippines- Presidential daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio continues to evade the question on running for the presidency. She even refused to comment on the rise of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno saying her administration is focused on accomplishing their programs and projects as the term of her father, President Rodrigo Duterte is ending in 2022.

“We didn’t, we haven’t start thinking about 2022. We’re still busy. Well my administration, we’re still busy in Davao City to make sure that there are gains for Davao City during the administration of President Duterte so that we will not disappoint the Davaoenos. Not just Davao City but the whole Davao region,” Duterte-Carpio said in a mix of English and Cebuano to reporters today during the opening salvo of the 450th foundation anniversary of Cebu Province at the capitol social hall where she is the guest of honor.

While she continues not to be categorical on her political plans, she positively reacted on the intent of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia that Davao City and the Province of Cebu would have sisterhood agreement. Garcia formally wrote a letter of intent to the Davao City Mayor. Duterte-Carpio said the sisterhood ties will be beneficial to both parties as it will usher in sharing best practices in governance and programs, among others.

“We will respond also with an answer, a positive answer for the sisterhood agreement,” the President’s daughter said. Duterte-Carpio recognized Cebu as the former premier province in the entire country and Davao City is looking forward to learn from the administration of Governor Garcia who made it happened during the nine-year term of Garcia from 2004-2013.

Cebu Province slid from the rankings however when Garcia was not anymore the Governor from 2013-2019 where she became Congresswoman for the 3rd district of the province. She won in her comeback bid last May and vows to catapult the province again to the No. 1 spot. “My fellow Cebuanos on this very special day that we celebrate our history and we celebrate our hope for the future, I ask each and every one of you to join me, to join me in this tremendous effort to once again regain what is rightfully ours as a province.

Regain the number one spot amongst all provinces in the entire country. Ibalik ta ang Sugbo pagka numero uno (we will again make Cebu the number one),” Garcia said in her anniversary speech. Aside from having the distinction as former number one province, Cebu is vote-rich, having at least 2.2 million voters.

Duterte-Carpio is being asked by many sectors to follow the footsteps of her father. Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is also being floated as a possible presidential contender as his programs in cleaning Manila have gained approval from the public./AAJ
