3 DEAD IN MV LITE FERRY FIRE

Three are confirmed dead in the fire onboard incident at around 12 midnight on M/V Lite Ferry 16 at Dapitan, Zamboanga Del Norte from Samboan port in Southern Cebu.

As of 6 am, the ship has declared fire out and 2 adults and one infant were declared dead; Danilo Gomez, 60, Rolando Heneral, 65 and 1-year-old Chloe Labisig.

The fatalities were identified by Lt. Jr. Grade Cherry Rose Manaay of Phil. Coast Guard Dapitan station.

The vessel has a capacity of 317 passengers and currently, it had 180 passengers and 38 crews.

Some of the passengers who were injured are being treated in different hospitals, the management of Danilo Lines, the owner of the vessel said in a statement.

There is also a team that has been dispatched from Cebu city to assist and help in ensuring the passenger’s needs.

For the casualties, all passengers are insured and the management will give a 10,000 financial assistance for each passenger and they will also reach out to the families of the 3 persons who were dead during the fire incident.

Fernando Inting-COO, Lite Shipping Corp. together with Jonathan Imboy-VP operations, Lite Shipping Corp.l. issued an official press release: For now, the management is coordinating with the Philippine coastguard to assist in the investigation. A marine protest will also be submitted within 24 hours by the company as required by PCG and Marina rules and regulations.

They can not yet verify the cause of the fire and will still be under investigation and the NBI will also help. /HT Lenis
