FERRY CATCHES FIRE WHILE AT SEA, 2 DEAD, 24 MISSING

Lite Ferry 16 left Samboan Port in Cebu last night at 6 pm with 137 passengers, it caught fire while at sea and was 1.5 nautical miles away from Palauan Port in Dapitan City, this was according to Lt. Jr. Grade Mike Encina of Coast Guard Cebu.

Based on the report, 109 of these passengers were adults, 24 minors and 4 infants. Onboard were 19 officers and crew, the vessel master is Desiderio Labiste, Jr.

On the initial investigation made by the Philippine Coast Guard Northern Mindanao, the fire started in the engine room that spread throughout the boat

Based on an update given by Apple Agolong, Tourism Officer of Dapitan City, two are confirmed dead,  24 are still missing while 110 have been rescued.
