JAMINDAN, CAPIZ- A police striking force against the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Central Visayas has been formed. The first of its kind in the country, the company-sized policemen were trained by the Philippine Army (PA), the Internal Security Operations (ISO) tactical officers from the training school the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID, Spearhead Division) of Camp Macario Peralta, Jr. based here.
3ID Commanding General Maj. Gen. Dinoh Dolina lauded the “brainchild” of PRO7 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas for making it as the very first in the country’s campaign against the insurgents where the police were trained by the army. “Let me take this opportunity to laud the efforts of the director Police Regional Office 7 for taking serious actions to capacitate your regional office to take the lead in our fight against the insurgents in the joint area of operations.
Your regional director did not think twice in accepting the challenge to be the one who would be primarily responsible in dealing with insurgency in some islands in Central Visayas. If all regional directors have the same mindset when it comes to dealing with insurgency, I am very sure that we will fast-track, we will be able to fast track the defeat of the communist terrorism in our area of responsibility,” Dolina said in his remarks during the graduation ceremony of the PNP ISO Training inside the sprawling military camp.
Sinas who served as the guest of honor during the event last Wednesday for his part thanked the 31D for training his men which he said would now give an edge to the police in going against the NPA rebels. “This gives us the chance to give the enemy a good fight,” Sinas said adding, “this is how we show, we are the one leading the way for the PNP to at least get involve directly in ISO operations.” The PRO7 director said depending on the need, the army trained policemen will be deployed mostly in Negros Oriental.
The ISO trained policemen are members of the 701st Mobile Force Company belonging to the PRO7 Regional Mobile Force Batallion (RMFB7) led by Col. Henry Grijaldo. Negros Oriental Province is a known hotbed of the NPA’s claiming to have at least three commands in the province. On July 18 this year, four policemen died in an ambushed in Ayungon town where the Mt. Cansermon Command (MCC-NPA) admitted responsibility. /AAJ
