CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Cebu City Sharks will parade a new bench tactician when the IPI-backed squad resumes its campaign in the MPBL Lakan Season against Pasig Sta. Lucia Realtors tomorrow Wednesday, Sep. 11, 2019 at the STRIKE Gym in Bacoor, Cavite.
Former pro-Expedito “Noynoy” Falcasantos will now call the shots of the Sharks, relegating the long-time IPI head coach Norberto “Titing” Manalili to the consultancy position, the same position he had when he first joined the Sharks in 2018.
“Noynoy Falcasantos will replace me as head coach of the Sharks, while I will be back as a consultant to the team. My main function is to take care of the needs of the team before it will be brought up to the management,” Manalili told iNews.Ph
Manalili, who succeeded the team from Gilbert Castillo, was able to bring the Sharks to the playoffs in last year’s Datu Cup despite a bad start.
They managed to finish the season with an 11-14 card and settled at the 8th place which was good enough to make the first round of the playoffs.
This season, the Sharks were currently at the 11th place in the South Division with a 4-7 win-loss card.
Falcasantos, who was a product of the Cebu City Colleges Aguilas (University of Cebu Webmasters), played for Sta. Lucia Realtors and Ginebra in the PBA, once played under Manalili-coach Mama’s Love, also an IPI franchise team in the defunct PABL.
“The changes were announced to the team yesterday (Monday, Sep. 9) and he had already handled the team practice in preparation for our game this Wednesday. Falcasantos is also a product of Cebu basketball, having played for CCC in his college days and played under me at Mama’s Love in the PABL. His presence would be a positive addition to our team,” added the decorated basketball mentor.
Before his coaching stint with the Sharks, Falcasantos called the shots for Imus Bandera in the Datu Cup before he was replaced by Budzz Reyes./RCM
