8M worth of Marijuana seized and eradicated in Balamban

More than 8 million pesos worth of Marijuana were seized by the Balamban Police Station in Sitio Capyoan, Barangay Sunog, Balamban, Cebu. Leopoldo Bonghanoy, 64, a former councilor of Brgy. Sunog was arrested for planting marijuana together with Arnel Castro and Fernan Bonghanoy, a relative of Leopoldo, who were all residents in the barangay.

They were caught on the act while they are harvesting around 7 this morning, November 14, 2019 and was arrested for violating Section 16, ART II OF R.A. 9165 (Eradication of Fully Grown Marijuana Plants). A piece of information provided by an official of Barangay Sunog and with the participation of raiding agencies by means of the final surveillances with the aid of one civilian informer, which ended with factual results and indeed huge plantation of fully grown Marijuana Plants were found in the stipulated areas.

A total of more than 8,000,000 was seized from the 2 sites. On the first site, 15,000 pieces more or less of fully grown Marijuana plants with a value of PHP 6,000,000.00 were seized. On the second site, 7,000 pieces more or less of fully grown Marijuana plants with the value of PHP 2,800,000.00 were also seized.

Personnel of Balamban Police Station led by PMAJ Christian B. Torres together with personnel of 1st PMFC, PDEA 7, RSOG, NAVFORCEN, Phil. Army jointly conducted Oplan Banat or the marijuana eradication of the place which resulted in the arrest of the suspects.

Uprooted marijuana plants were burned on the site as witnessed by the barangay officials. Other few pieces of fully grown marijuana in which part of the uprooted marijuana plants was brought to the station for evidentiary purpose and to support in the filing for Violation of Section 16, ART II OF R.A. 9165 against the aforesaid suspects in courts of law./HTL
