CEBU CITY, Philippines- She allowed “selfies” left and right and shook hands with many but when asked on seeking the presidency presidential daughter Sara Duterte Carpio refused to comment. “No comment” was her one-liner answer when asked by a female reporter yesterday, November 18, 2019, from the scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 as the highest) on whether she will seek the presidency as the term of her father, President Rodrigo Duterte ends on 2022.
Carpio, the Mayor of Davao City just flew in the morning from her place to Cebu for one important event, the blessing of a new ship of Boholano shipping magnate Lucio Lim, Jr., the CEO of Lite Shipping Corporation.
In her brief speech prior to the blessing of MV Lite Ferry 5 which will ply the Oslob-Dipolog route, Carpio asked the public to patronize the new vessel which she said will usher in development and progress in the Zamboanga peninsula.
“Today as we welcome Lite Ferry 5, we look forward to hauling this vessel by ferrying people and goods between Cebu and Dipolog will not only save time and money for people traveling between Cebu and the Zamboanga peninsula but also strengthen ties between Visayas and Mindanao.
I am inviting all Cebuanos traveling to Mindanao to take the Lite Ferry 5,” Carpio said.
Lim for his part thanked Carpio for her presence who joined him for lunch before rushing to the Mactan Cebu airport to fly back to Davao. The event which also had Congressman Edgar Mary Sarmiento (Samar 1st district), Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation was well attended as other politicians and government officials were also around.
Lim said that the China-made vessel which was classed by RINA of Italy will temporarily dock in Dapitan City pending the dredging of the Dipolog City port. Dipolog City Mayor Darel Dexter Uy and Oslob Mayor Jose Tumulak also gave their speeches during the program as both were also thankful to Lite Shipping Corporation.
Carpio has been very “publicly visible” even prior to the May 2019 elections where the majority of those she endorsed in the Hugoong ng Pagbabago (HnP) as senators won. In the House of Representatives, Carpio was also pinpointed as responsible in unseating former Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez by former Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who has recently retired from politics, however.
Incumbent Speaker Allan Peter Cayetano (Taguig City-Pateros, 1st district) agreed to a term sharing agreement with Cong. Lord Allan Velasco (Marinduque), a known protege of Carpio./AAJ
