CEBU City, Philippines – Eumir Felix Marcial’s move to turn pro could improve his chances to win a medal in Tokyo Olympics.
This is what Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Officer-in-Charge Ramon Fernandez revealed after Marcial signed a 6-year promotional deal with Manny Pacquaio’s promotional outfit, MP Promotions on Wednesday, July 15, 2020.
“As it is, as per his performances against his previous opponents I think he has the greatest chance to medal in the Olympics,” the PBA 4-time MVP told iNews.Ph.
Despite becoming a professional boxer, PSC remained committed to throwing full support to the 24-year old Zamboanga City puncher on his Summer Olympic campaign which was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.
“PSC remains committed to our commitment to support him (Marcial) in his Olympic journey. That is what our commitment to all our national (elite) athletes who earned a slot to the Olympics,” added the PBA All-time leading scorer, all-time leading rebounder and all-time blocks leader.
The “El Presidente” believed that signing with MP Promotions is the right move since Sen. Manny Pacquiao could guide Marcial to his dreamed achievements.
“I am glad that he signed up with MP. I’m sure Sen. Manny will take good care of him,” continued Com. Fernandez.
Meanwhile, ABAP president Ricky Vargas is giving his full support on Marcial’s quest for the elusive Olympic gold medal.
“Yes, Eumir informed me about this. I told him, I am very happy for Him, wished him well and said now he can focus on his career. He is in good hands with Sen. Pacquaio. I likewise reiterated ABAP is all out in support of his quest for the Olympic Medal. told him he is always welcome to our training camp and if he needs any help his ABAP family and Coaches will be there for him always. I also thanked him for his commitment to train hard and represent our country in the Olympics,” Vargas message relayed by ABAP secretary-general Ed Picson to iNews.Ph.
It is not certain yet on what weight class Marcial will pit his punches since they are still on the planning stage. But one thing is sure, the 2020 Asia-Oceania Olympic Qualifying gold medallist will join the ranks of Filipino boxing champions that includes Manny Pacquiao himself, Pedro Taduran, Johnriel Casimero and Jerwin Ancajas.
