Polio, or poliomyelitis, is an infectious disease that most commonly affects children. It is paralyzing and potentially deadly. The virus spreads through contaminated water and attacks the nervous system especially of children under the age of 5. Rotary Club has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years and said that we are closer now more than ever. The most active Rotarians have reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since their first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.
The theme for this year is “A win against polio is a win for global health.” In relation to this, Rotary Club of Metro Mandaue 2006 held an online Aero dance event last October 31, 2020 to help end polio and spread awareness. Invited the Zumba Queen of Cebu Ms. Emma Satchell to led the team in the dynamic dance exercises.
Rotarians encourage everyone to practice proper hygiene and a healthy lifestyle by exercising and eating right. The group would like to remind others of the importance of vaccination as this can protect people from the polio disease.
Rotary Club of Metro Mandaue 2006 would like to thank our event sponsors for supporting us with this campaign: Rotarian Regan King of Harley Davidson Cebu and Asmara Urban Resort & Lifestyle Village who provided us with the physical venue. Rotary Club of Metro Mandaue 2006
