Omega Promotions announces Apolinar vs Waminal OPBF Silver Title match in Mandaue City Cebu

CEBU CITY, Philippines, 24-May-2021 — Omega Pro Sports International, thru its VP Mr. Jerome Calatrava, announces the complete cast of the protagonists for their Kumbati 10 Boxing Extravaganza.

The card is slated to happen on July 3, 2021, at the IPI Compound in Tingub, Mandaue City. The main event will feature Penitente “Thunder” Apolinar facing former WBA Asia Bantam Interim Champion Jess Rhey Waminal. The two will duke it out at the Featherweight limit of 126lbs for the right to wear the newly designed  Orient Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) Silver Championship Belt.

Apolinar is riding on a scorching 6-year, 9-fight winning streak starting way back in 2015. His only loss was against then fellow ALA pug Jeo Santisima in Toledo City, Cebu, when both were still starting their respective careers. A loss which his management now (Omega Gym) is aching for him to avenge.

Apolinar has been a regular fixture of Omega’s Kumbati series having been on board in its last 3 episodes. However as Apolinar is busy fighting thru the pandemic period, his opponent may have to contend with some ring rust as Waminal’s last dance was way back in Nov 2019 or some 18 months ago.

Waminal’s last fight was an impressive win against Indian Sunil Siwach where he prevailed via unanimous decision. Jess Rhey’s most notable win was against South Korean Jin Wook Lim when he knockout Lim in the 9th in an event held right at the Korean’s home turf.

This win catapulted Waminal high in the rankings in several world boxing bodies including that of the OPBF. As of the May 2021 rankings, Apolinar occupies spot #7 while Waminal is at #10. This is anticipated to be a grudge match between two former friends and stablemates at the famed ALA Gym.

Supporting the main event is another super exciting matchup between two unbeaten prospects. Omega’s Mark Vicelles will face fellow unbeaten Jerven Mama for a scheduled 10-round non-title fight. Vicelles whose lofty world rankings in almost all boxing organizations will be tested against the General Santos City native Mama. Somebody’s 0 has got to go!

Rounding up the matches in this 9-bout event will be the comeback of Christian Araneta trading leathers with veteran Richard Claveras over 10 rounds. Tomjune Mangubat will match up with Ernie Sanchez, Jhunrick Carcedo will test the toughness of Omega’s brightest prospect to date Carlo Bacaro. Bacaro is coming off an impressive decision win over Allan Villanueva in the previous edition of this Kumbati series.

The rest of the bouts are : Regie Suganob (6-0) vs MJ Bo (8-4-2), Franco Serafica vs TBA, Benny Canete (2-0) vs Jimpol Dignos (2-0). Opening up this event will be Rodel Suganob (2-0-1) fighting Reymar Condes (2-2-0) over 6 rounds. /acn.
