Exciting crossover round in PCAP Wesley So Cup begins tonite

CEBU CITY – The Cordova Dutchess Dagami Warriors will try to build another winning streak as the 2021 Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Wesley So Cup Conference enters the division crossover phase today.

The Dagami Warriors who found its nine-game streak came to a halt last Saturday, June 5, after bowing out to the GM Mark Paragua-led Camarines Soaring Eagles will start from scratch as they play the Cagayan Kings and Caloocan Loadmanna Knights in tonight’s North vs. South double-header matches.

Cordova suffered an 8.5 to 12.5 loss to Camarines but got its bearing back on winning track as they whipped the Zamboanga Sultans 13 to 8 two hours later.

Allan Pason was the lone Cordova player to beat his opponent in Board 7 Christian Mark Daluz twice while NM Merben Roque won the Rapid match and drew the Blitz game with Ellan Aseula in Board 2.

Camarines now hold a 3-0 record over Cordova in their head-to-head match.

Israeli GM Nitzan Steinberg won the Blitz match but lost the Rapid game with GM Paragua in Board 1, Mario Mangubat also split his match with NM Carlo Lorena – winning the Rapid but losing the Blitz in Board 4.

Cordova and Camarines finished the first round with an identical 10-1 win-loss record, however, because of the winner-over-the-other rule; the leadership in the Southern Division is now in the hands of the Soaring Eagles.

Meantime, Uzbek GM Alexi Barsov-reinforced Cagayan is currently in the 8th place in the North Division standings with a 5-6 win-loss record while Caloocan is parading the youthful International Masters Paulo Bersamina and Jan Emmanuel Garcia, FMs Barlo Nadera and Nelson Villanueva, NM Pacifico Villasenor and WNM Arvie Lozano – is currently tied with Laguna Heroes and Antipolo Cobras with 8-3 card.

Caloocan might post a big problem to the Dagami Warriors as they have proven tough nuts to crack.
