CEBU CITY – The much anticipated Ri-Chess Masters (RCM) organized FIDE rated over the board tournament is underway. Renamed as Mactan Open & Philippine National Championship 2021, the fast growing group is gearing high towards this cash rich 9-Round Swiss System tournament with 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment time control that offers more than P130,000 in cash prizes to the winners, on December 9 to 14 at the Solea Mactan Resort.
“We are going to push through with the Cordova Open but it will be now known as MACTAN OPEN. We will also host simultaneously NCFP’s Philippine NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP Grand Finals,” RCM Chief Admin Officer Bernalyn “Bec” Campomanes told iNews.Ph.
The event was supposed to be held in August but the second wave of corona virus infections that hit the country forced its postponement. The competition offers P50,000 cash prize for the champion, P25,000 to the second placer and P15,000 for the third finisher to go with a plaque and a medal.
The 4th to the 10th finishers will also receive cash reward and a medal each along with the Top Lady Player, top U16, top U14, top U12, top U10 and top U8. The tournament is open to all chess players in good standing with FIDE, National Chess Federation of the Philippines and RCM.
Registration fee is P1,500 for open players while players 16 years old and under will pay only P1,000. Aside from getting a shot at the hefty cash prizes and the comfortable amenities of the venue, participants will enjoy unlimited coffee during the competition.
Deadline of registration and payment will be on Nov. 30. No late registration will be entertained. The Arrivals, technical meeting and opening ceremony are scheduled prior to the start of the Round 1 of competition at 4PM on Dec. 9.
