Cebuano Mixed Martial Artist Trestle Tan continued to make waves in Europe after he snared the championship belt in the Respect Fighting Championship (RFC) Grappling Tournament over the weekend in Frankfurt, Germany. Tan, who just received his brown belt in Brazilian Jiujitsu, added a feather to his cap after dominating the over 80 kgs. expert division. “I faced tough competition because my division includes brown belts and black belts coming from all around Europe,” said the One Championship fighter.
“I am happy because I showed them what Filipino fighters are made off. I hope I inspired my fellow Cebuano grapplers. I hope we can unify and build a solid community that can provide good competition abroad.”
Before winning the RFC belt, the Toledo, Cebu-native Tan also snatched the North American Grappling Association (NAGA) title the other week with his long-time partner Kimberley Hoyer. He also topped his division during the Germany leg of the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC).
“My dream is to someday share my knowledge with the Cebuanos, especially the younger generation. I believe that we all have what it takes to be big not only in Jiujitsu but in MMA. I am happy that the jiujitsu community in Cebu is growing but I want them to unite and stop the politics.” After his series of victories, Tan said that he isn’t finished yet as he is aiming to win more jiujitsu tournaments around Europe and he will also see action in a wrestling competition next month.
