LAPU-LAPU City, Philippines – Omega Boxing Gym knockout sensation Christian ‘The Bomb’ Araneta showed that he has regained confidence in the pursuit of title shot.
And he did it in an explosive fashion.
In front of boxing fans at the Hoopsdome, Araneta (23-2, 18KOs) displayed his punching power as he destroyed veteran Thai Jakrawut Majungoen (42-4, 21KOs) in the main event of “Kumbati 14: Battle of Mactan” Saturday night.
Showing experience and maturity, the 28-year-old Araneta was composed and patient in the early rounds as he tagged the Thai with his crisp jabs and short hooks.
The pride of Borbon, Cebu switched to high gear in the eight rounds as he went aggressive throwing a barrage of punches to the Thai who backpedalled to avoid the Cebuanos onslaught.
The winning moment came to Araneta at the 1:36 mark of the ninth round as he caught the Thai on the ropes before landing a vicious straight to the midsection of Majungoen who was immediately sent kneeling. The shot was so destructive that the Thai vomited as he grimaced in pain.
“I was patient during the fight, but I know I can take him out if I’m going to see an opening,” said Araneta. “I’m just going to continue winning and hopefully get back in the (world) ranking.”
In the supporting bouts, two Omega Boxing prospects Benny Canete (8-1, 6KOs) and Pete Apolinar (17-5, 10KOs) scored an impressive unanimous decision win over the more experienced Renoel Pael (23-14,12KOs) and Raymond Empic (7-7,3KOs), respectively.
In the undercards, Franco Serafica outgunned Marjun Piencenaves, Jason Canoy decisions Michael Adolfo, Dariel Diamante blasted Ramil Roda Jr, while Jhon Magos won his debut against Reggie Empis.
