Blu Girls Secures World Cup Slot, Bats for Bronze in Asia Cup

INCHEON, South Korea – After winning against India coupled with the loss of Korea against Japan, RP Blu Girls has assured themselves of a top 4 finish in the ongoing Asia Cup, thus, securing a World Cup berth in the process.

 

“I’m so proud of these girls, they really trained hard for this and has fought with all their heart each game. This is a huge accomplishment given that this is an All-Filipina team, the first in 9 years. We at ASAPHIL will ensure that they get the preparations and exposure they need to be battle ready against the world’s best in the World Cup in July,” said a beaming ASAPHIL President Jean-Henri Lhuillier.

The RP Blu Girls bowed down to the World Number 2 Japan, 1-9, on Friday, their final game in the nine-nation tournament.

 

The Blu Girls stunned the opponents with its first and only run at the top of the first inning. However, the opponents tightened up their defense and scored five runs at the bottom of the second inning. The game was called to a stop after the fourth inning with Japan establishing an 8-run lead.

 

They are set to battle for bronze against Chinese-Taipei this morning. The Taiwanese handed the Blu Girls its first defeat last Monday, and they are aching to get back at their tormentor for a podium finish.

 

“We are elated with securing the World Cup slot which was our target at the start of the tournament. But we will go for a podium finish, and I believe the team can do it.”, said RP Blu Girls Coach Randy Dizer.

 

Should the RP Blu Girls pull off a win in the bronze medal match, they ‘ll be bracketed with host Ireland, Australia, Botswana, Great Britain, and United States of America in the World Cup in July.

 

Should they lose in the bronze medal match in the ongoing Asia Cup, they’ll be bracketed with host Italy, Canada, New Zealand, and Venezuela in the World Cup in July. – Marlon Bernardino
