MANILA, Philippines – The Laguna-Dasmarinas wrapped up the elimination round of 2023 Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) with a blowout win against Cavite Spartans, 27-1, virtually held Chess.com Platform last Saturday.
Showing the true spirit of a champion, the Dr. Fred Paez-owned professional chess team concluded the eliminations with an impressive 27-1 win-loss card.
“Ang 27-1 win-loss card ng Laguna Dasmarinas ay isa ito sa pinaka magandang performance sa kasaysayan ng PCAP matapos ang elimination round,” said Dr. Paez. (The 27-1 win-loss card of Laguna Dasmariñas is one of the best performances in the annals of PCAP after the end of the elimination round.)
Starting the assault, the Laguna Dasmarinas scored a 7-0 in the Blitz games and capped with a 14-0 triumph in the Rapid events. Thanks to the full points each given by GM Rogelio “Banjo” Barcenilla Jr., in Board1, FMer Roel Abelgas in Board 2, WNM Jerlyn Mae San Diego in Board 3, IM Angelo Young in Board 4, IM Michael Concio Jr. in Board 5, AGM Kimuel Aaron Lorenzo in Board 6 and FM Dino Ballecer in Board 7.
Barcenilla defeated AGM Jose Rafael Legaspi, Abelgas dismantled AGM Alvin Alcala, San Diego subdued Praise Torre, Young edged IM Petronio Roca, Concio crushed Erwin Calar, Lorenzo trounced Rodolf Perez and Ballecer dealt with Richard Cornell Manzano.
With the victory, the Laguna Dasmarinas will take on Rizal Batch Towers for the quarterfinals.
“Inaasahan namin mabigat ang laban pero gagawin namin ang aming best sa Quarter Finals.,” shared IM Young, an 8-time Illinois US champion. (We are expecting a tough fight, but we will give our best in the quarter finals.)
