MANILA – Two Filipino chess players won in their respective matches in the Philippines versus Estonia-friendly online chess games organized by Bayanihan Chess Club and backed by Europe-based sportsman Kim Zafra.
Team Philippines’ Arena International Master Chester “The Coach” Caminong and Candidate Master Genghis “The Last Conqueror” Imperial defeated their respective opponents with impressive performances being held through the Lichess Platform on Monday, May 1, 2023.
Caminong (Elo 2041), the coach of San Beda-Alabang toppled Woman Fide Master Trinn “Queen’s Gambit” Narva (Elo 1982), 5-1, while Imperial, one of the top players of PCAP’s Manila Indios Bravos edged Veski “Mr. Peski” Rauno (Elo 1643), 3-2.
Meanwhile, Sportswriter/Radio commentator National Master Almario Marlon “Memoryman” Bernardino Jr. (Elo 2035) was defeated by Nikita “Estonian Gunner” Rotsagov (Elo 2228), 5-3, in the main game.
Bernardino had the chance to even the count at 3.5-3.5 all, however, committed a blunder in the 32nd move allowing the Estonian player a 4.5-2.5 comfortable lead in first-to-make- five points format. The game ended in a draw in the following round that resulted in a 5-3 victory for Nikita.
“We do this to promote friendship between the Philippines and Estonia and work together to build a bright future,” said Europe based/Sportsman Kim Zafra.
