CEBU City – The Good Shepherd Toledo City welcomed the huge games of its reliable players to boot EGS Talisay City out of contention for the second slot to the Championship game of the Balamban Fiesta Cup 2023 Inter-Commercial Basketball League at the Mayor Exasperanza Binghay Sports Complex in Balamban.
The presence of PBA players Brian Heruela and Paul Desiderio, and Jan Auditor were not enough to lead the Talisay City-based team to pull a victory.
The Toledo City-based Good Shepherd meanwhile, turn veteran Jercules Tangkay along with Rino Berame and Joshua Dela Cerna to deal with the reinforced squad.
Luckily for Good Shepherd Heruela and Auditor shot a measly 3-of-14 and 0-of-2 respectively, while Desiderio also missed a lot of shots 11-of-23. Overall, EGS only made 30-of-86 attempts, as the other players – Tristan Albina could not find his shots as he sank only one of 14 attempts and Mark Racho was 1-of-12.
In contrast, Toledo City sank 38-of-80 attempts with Dela Cerna sank 12 of 21 attempts to finish with 25 points on top of 15 rebounds and three assists. Berame was even more accurate at 8-of-11 to score 18 points and 16 rebounds, three assists and two block shots.
Desiderio scored the game high 29 points with eight rebounds and four assists. Raymond Bersabal had 12 points as EGS were already out of the championship picture.
Meanhile, the Tuburan 360 Coffee Producers got the chance to make it to the championship game as they scored a repeat over K&L Marketing Naga City following a 95-88 victory in the other quarterfinal game.
Mike Parilla, Jiesel Tarrosa and Pacsoy Oropiano each had 14 point each for Tuburan 360 Coffee while the 32 points and 10 rebounds of Jayson Balabag went for naught as K&L remain win-less after six games.
Tonight, the EGS will try to salvage its campaign as they play against K&L Marketing in the opening game at 6:30PM, while Tuburan 360 Coffee and Good Shepherd Toledo City will play for the second slot to the championship match.
The winner of the first game will play the loser of the second game for the third-place finish while the winner will play across AC Troopers/Eversure for the P150,000 champion’s prize. RCM
